Newport News, VA - October 11, 2006 –– Inmates are the
only people in the country with a constitutional guarantee to quality
healthcare. Yet mortality rates in correctional facilities from diabetes,
hypertension, and asthma are abnormally high. During medical history
interviews with physicians, nurses and supporting staff, an inmates’
personal lack of knowledge of their own physical conditions can lead
to inadequate and incomplete medical history data. In various prisons,
the physicians and nurses roles as note takers has been eliminated and
replaced by using The PrimeCare Patient Management System bilingual
electronic interview modules. The inmate answers the questions in the
each module then the System generates a report containing the inmate's
current problems, medications and allergies, all positive and significant
negative subjective responses, vital signs, and a list of the diagnostic
considerations and differential diagnoses. The report is available online
only to the institution’s physicians and nurses allowing them
to rapidly respond to an inmate’s medical emergencies.
Each physician can process two or more additional inmates an hour using
the PrimeCare Patient Management System. The completed modules and subsequent
reports give more hands-on time for diagnostic assessment and treatment
saving time and money, and is expected to save lives.
The interview modules are fully bi-lingual and can be read and answered
English or Spanish. A single keystroke changes the questions and responses
from/to English or Spanish.
